Body prep
dashboard repair This is a hole that was cut in the dash to install a radio at some point in the past. I can't imagine that the radio fit very well because part of it cuts into the lip around the steering column. In preparation for filling it I have outlined the hole with tape to keep the repair job from growing
Radio hole filled I cut a scrap piece of fiberglass to fill the hole and glassed it in from behind
New Gel Coat I mixed up some homemade gel coat by adding fumed silica to polyster resin with a little black pigment. I mixed this fairly thick to fill the gaps. After sanding this out I will mix some more (much thinner) and spray it on with an airbrush. This will help blend it into the existing color as well as fill the remaining imperfections.
completed repair I have mixed up another batch and sprayed it on with an air brush. After it dried I wet sanded then polished the area. It came out pretty good. There are a couple of pinholes that I will probably go back and fix later.
Assembly
Heater Plenums Installing the heater plenums in the front wheel wells before and after photo.
